Stranger than Kindness

Dublin 2, 2013

This image is from a series I have been working on. It examines brutalist buildings in Dublin 1 and 2. I find theses buildings very interesting, they are some what unapologetic and the square grid design seems to echo that of graph paper.

HBD Big Jim

HBD Big Jim
HQ, 2013

I remember when I first moved over to Dublin, I was skating bushy park. I could hear this big NY accent shouting "hell yeah!".  Big Jim was the first skater I got talking to over here and is one of the best! HBD dude! See you on the ramp!

Thanks to fellow students Julia & Liezl!

cellbridge bowl

 Wayne G, Cellbridge bowl, 2013
(left: Minolta + Delta, below: Adox Golf + hp5)

Skated a new wee skatepark out in Cellbridge. The bowl is a bit of a challenge in the sense that looks easier to skate than it actually is. Well worth the short trip tho!

Templebar, 2013
(minolta xd7 + delta)

Ok, I did not set out to photograph this muppet, but when he happened to present himself near me, I thought why not. I dunno which one he is but as you can see he is bathing in the attention.

texture

Somewhere near Loch Dan, 2013
(Minolta xd7 + delta)

As an homage to Diado Moriyama I have spent some time looking for texture. I happened to find my self in some woodland as the sun was setting, the play of light and shadows was unreal. I was half expecting to see the deer men of dark wood.

Paranoid Visions

more studio time!

 IADT studio, 2013
(hassleblad 500 + HP5)

Had another session in the studio with fellow photographers Liezl Erasmus & Julia Ptak. So far we've only had each other as subjects, so focus has been on trying different lights & flashes.

Well, as you can see, am jumping for joy here! Can't ask people to do crazy stuff in front of the lens and not include yourself in it!

Falkland Hill, Fife, 2012
(Minolta xd7 + Tri-x)

Got stuck in fog up the hills with mixed results, slightly over developed due to rather warm darkroom. Remarkable what a great diffuser of light fog can be!

IADT studio

 Studio practice, IADT, 2013
(Hassleblad 500 + ilfrod HP5)

Spent sometime with  fellow photographers & students ( Julia Ptak & Liezl Erasmus) experimenting in the studio, shooting under tungsten lights.

Left- Julia & Liezl

Quickly found out why people love the hassleblad system so much.

Prop Hunter 2 scans

 Wayne G, b/s flip disaster, 2012
(Supersampler + Kodak Tri-x)

Been spending a lot of time printing in the darkroom and when Prop Hunters 2 rolled round, it made sense to print the whole thing analog. This is the first time I've digitized any of the stuff I showed.

Gar K, Baggot st, 2012
(Minolta xd-7, kodak tri-x + Metz flash)

Goodnight of spot hunting with the trusty metz flash and remote trigger. The same night we found a massive down ramp into an underground carpark, it was so good I couldn't pass it without bombing it. I stuck it out but was soon accosted by some rent a cop on a sedgeway.

Showcase

Templebar, 2012
(Minolta XD7 + Kodak Tmax pushed to 6400iso)

Went to the opening of SHOWCASE at the Gallery of Photography. Exhibition of six great artists, Rich Gilligan included! Good turn out of skaters to show Rich support. The exhibition is still running and admission is free to get along to it!

memories of 2012

Rebellion Festival, Blackpool, 2012
(Minolta xd7 + ilford 3200)

This is one of my favourite pics from the festival. We were taking shelter from the rain and trying to finish a bottle of buckfast. Many thanks to Liz is Evil for commissioning me to photograph the tour! Can't wait for 2013, this time with more of everything, including electric scooters!

Anno Domino

Talbot st, Dublin, 2011
(Minolta XD7 + Neopan 400)

Browsing through my old scans I found this. I used to work in this old run down building, my mates band "liz is evil" used it for a video shoot. The upperfloors are over run by damp and pigeons.

Prop Hunters 2

Gorey, 2012
(Olympus Trip + Ilford 400 b/w)

This was one of the photos that never made the cut for Prop Hunters 2. It was Go Skate Day and we were taking shelter waiting for the rain to clear. "just another 20 mins man! it'll dry" Big Jim's famous last words.
